ADVICE FOR YOUNG ATHLETES
1:15 - Simoni, if you knew what you knew now when you had a shot at the league, what kind of athlete would you have been in terms of training?
7:35 - Simoni says if kids don’t hear anything else, get some rest. Take naps, go to bed early and on time.
8:00 - Mike shares research that found teenage athletes who get less than 8 hours of sleep a night are 1.7x more likely to get an injury that will prevent them from playing sports than teens who get at least 8 hours/night.
SIMONI & THE CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
9:00 - Simoni explains in detail the kind of training he does with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on a weekly basis during the season.
12:35 - What kind of technology do you use at practice? Simoni talks about the tech he has used before and Mike explains how these sensors can provide data including things like average speed, top speed, and more. Coaches can use this data to see how an athlete is performing and more importantly, to track an athlete’s recovery process.
15:45 - Simoni talks about the difficulty of getting injured and not wanting to miss practice.
17:57 - Chase shares his thoughts on an athlete’s recovery process.
TRAINING FOR THE MENTAL GAME
22:53 - Simoni asks how CHase and Mike prepare their athletes for the mental aspect of football/sports.
28:26 - The men debate what happens to athletes who are below par. Simoni says that in high school football too many times kids get “quit on”.
33:20 - Mike talks about the differences between the old school football he grew up with and modern football.
34:36 - Simoni asks what you do when two separate coaches tell you different things. Mike says the key to fixing this problem is for an athlete’s team of doctors to establish trust with one another and work together.
